Australian fighting game event runners and community. Hosts of BAM: Battle Arena Melbourne, Australia's largest fighting game/open entry esports event.
He covers character archetypes, use of normals, spacing, frame data and much more. Hope you guys enjoy it, and here’s hoping more of our local community and content make it onto mainstream media channels!
Rory also maintains his own FGC news site: The Saltmine.
Hi guys, our February ranbat will also serve as an official launch tournament for Street Fighter V. We anticipate high demand and have chosen to hold this event at CQ Functions, the same location in the heart of the CBD which we use to host BAM.
Since we expect that around 200 players will attend this ranbat just for Smash Bros. alone, to avoid long queues on the day, get yourself into the bracket early, and to generally make life easier for your friendly neighbourhood tournament organiser you can register online with prepayments.
Pre-reg is open until Thursday February 18th. For all other details concerning this month’s ranbat, visit the official event page.
Carnage (Hakan Dorter) recently ran a farewell SFIV tournament at the CCH venue in Melbourne, and it was a successfull round robin style 32-man tournament with many old faces and hidden dragons returning, such as Jeff “Renzuo” Budiman, Sol, Penh, Rayray, Exis, Bosslogic, Geese, Andy, MiceElf and even Robsux from Sydney came down! It was streamed by Burnout at http://www.twitch.tv/burnoutfighter

Chris’ Club House (CCH) is back on this Saturday at the Collingwood Library, for another friendly night of FGC casuals and chillout. For 2016 dates and more details check out the CCH page. If you want a quick video primer of the event check out Burnout’s video of it:

Hi guys, This is Muttons here. Welcome to the first episode of Stuff Yo’ Couch!
I originally envisioned this show to be a Couchwarriors ranbat recap, in the vein of the old X report (shoutouts to Ali and the Abdos) Where we could go over all things CouchWarriors; go over results, give you guys a peek into the action and sights to be seen at the ranbat, and maybe get a few interviews with important faces and figures in the Melbourne community.
I’m still ironing out what I want to do with the show, so I apologise for any roughness or inconsistencies – please let me know what you guys think or what to see in the future and I’ll be happy to use your feedback to smack the show more into shape.
In this episode we interview Philip John Pretty aka Redact, who’s recently joined team Exile5 in light of his stellar work at BAM7 which turned out to be massive with 500 plus registrants- huge kudos to the Smash community for really blowing up the event with their international guests and hype. And we also have Darren Taing aka Dreadtech- the hardest worker in the Smash community right now, and a deserved winner of the Community Award at BAM7. The August Couchwarriors ranbat had a welcome guest in the form of an SFV preview build courtesy of Capcom Australia, so thanks very much to them- so we have a brief section of some quick opinions from the players. I had a pretty good section of Somniac breaking the game down from a technical perspective- but the audio was lost. Go me.
Other things to mention: We have the CouchWarriors AGM on November 21st at CCH, so if you guys are interested in helping out with CouchWarriors and building up the Melbourne fighting game community, come down – everyone is welcome to come. https://www.facebook.com/events/1482381598738088/
Also we have the Adelaide major on November 28-29: SXC2015 (Southern Cross Championship) run by Mooseking and the SA crew. I always have a blast at SXC, the first year I went they hired the entire floor of a Thai restaurant and everybody went after the tournament and ate together and told stories, which was awesome. We tried to blatantly rip it off at BAM this year but with mixed success 😛 we’ll see how we go next year. https://www.facebook.com/events/922092641163432/
URGENT: Sorry guys, the Collingwood library has just let me know that there is last minute renovations at the Collingwood library so we will have to move to the Richmond Library at 415 Church Street. We will start at 3PM. Apologies for the late notice.
It’s time for the CouchWarriors AGM. Official Facebook event found here.
Since we are a non-for-profit organisation, we are required to run this every year and to give one month’s notice to board members and the public.
At the AGM we will discuss an agenda of the following: -Review of events done this year such as BAM7, ranbats and convention activities -Financial review -Review of mission statement and strategies/plans moving forward -Election of board members: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer.
Our secretary Rory Betteridge will add a detailed agenda based on last year’s AGM agenda soon. Our AGM is open to the public, if you feel like you would like to be a part of CouchWarriors and to help out with tournaments and building up the fighting game community in Melbourne, please feel free to come along. Our scene is built on the passion and dedication of volunteers and organisers, we couldn’t do it without you guys.
The AGM will be held at 415 Church Street, Richmond, in the community room of the Richmond Library. (Basically it will be held at CCH:http://couchwarriors.org/wp/cch-casual-play/
